Child star mania is on the rise! Popular shows like Star Search and American Junior Idol are searching for the next child star. Parents who have talented children are pushing hard to get a spot on one of these shows to make their children famous.

Child Stars Competition
Fame can mean great opportunities for young people however it is not all glorious. They may face a lot of rejection on the journey to becoming famous. Children who are put under the pressure of show business seem to do better when they have a solid foundation within their families.

Children need management but more importantly they require support and love from their families. It's a dog-eat-dog business that can chew you up and spit you out at a moment's notice. The loss of privacy, gossip, and constant scrutiny can be devastating for some.

Former Child Stars
Macaulay Culkin of the Home Alone series and Drew Barrymore are some examples of child stars that were pushed into the spotlight by ambitious parents.

• Macaulay Caulkin - After Macaulay's parents divorce he wrote his father off completely and swore off his career as an actor in Hollywood.
• Drew Barrymore who starred in E.T. as a young child later abused alcohol and drugs to block out the pressures of fame along with a dysfunctional family.

American Juniors

Child stars from ages 6 to 13 are being sought out by Hollywood executives to form a five band group. The ten finalists will battle it out for a spot in the top five and a chance to become what may very well be the next Backstreet Boys.

Parents from all over the U.S. are doing all they can to give their children the opportunity to become famous. These children are judged not only on their singing skills but their ability to dance.

American Juniors evolved from the highly popular American Idol that captivated millions. Finalists like Clay Aiken and Kimberly Locke who didn't win the top spot have secured a fan base for themselves that will likely see them have the type of success Rueben Studdard is experiencing.

Britney Spears stars on Star Search
Britney Spears became famous despite losing to her opponent on Star Search. Many others who were beat out on the show also went on to find eventual success in Hollywood.
