Britney Spears has always had good fashion sense. She was never very excited about the image music executives had decided on for her when she first started out in the business. The innocent catholic school girl image in her first video Baby One More Time was a disappointment when she modelled herself after stars like Madonna and Janet Jackson whose styles had edge.

She wanted the dancing, singing, and style of her videos to come alive so she hiked up the shirt in the video to show a little more skin. She was an overnight sensation and began to set fashion trends for girls everywhere around the world. As much as her fans love her music they are equally excited about what Britney is wearing.

Trendsetting
Britney took control over her image and decided to lose the skirts and pony tails making way for low cut hip-hugging pants and crop tops. The fans went wild! Her popularity soared and before long Britney Jean Jeans and other clothing were being manufactured so that every girl in America could look like Britney Spears.

Sexuality vs. Style
Her provocative clothes and sexy videos have had many parents wondering whether her attempt to express her sexuality has gone too far. She has said on many occasions in her defence that her choice of clothing is an attempt to express herself and is part of the type of "dress up" that many young girls experiment with.

Although some may say her videos are a market for sex - she doesn't agree. "If I have on a short skirt it doesn't mean I have low morals. I have very high morals." She has been very vocal about good family values and encourages abstinence before marriage. She gives credit where credit is due, to her parents who she looks up to and wants to make proud.

Regardless of what others might say Britney is having the time of her life. She designs many of the outfits she wears on stage and tries to make each concert an experience for everyone who is there to have fun.
