Charlotte Church Biography

The life of Welsh soprano star Charlotte Church began on February 21st 1986 in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales. Her remarkable voice was first noticed at the youthful age of three when she sang the ‘Ghostbusters’ theme song with her cousin at a seaside holiday camp in Caernarfon, Wales. The general public discovered her talent when she appeared on “This Morning with Richard and Judy,” a UK daytime magazine program. In 1998, Charlotte Church blew everyone away when the host of “The Big, Big Talent Show” asked her to sing, and from then on, everyone in Wales was talking about her.

Charlotte ChurchAfter this big break, Charlotte Church began singing at various concerts held at the Royal Albert Hall, Cardiff Arms Park; she was also opening for Shirley Bassey in Antwerp. Even though her performance schedule required that she travel to many places, she nevertheless remained in school with the help of private tutors while she was on the road. She signed a record deal with Sony at the age of 12, and released her first album entitled “Voice of an Angel.” It received great reviews and went platinum in the United States. She released more albums in later years that were equally successful in both the U.S and U.K charts.

Although primarily known as an opera singer, Charlotte Church decided to journey down a different path in her teenage years. In 2005, she released her first pop album titled “Tissues and Tissues,” an effort that depicted her new, controversial image - a nineteen year old Church promoting alcohol, tobacco, and profanity. In 2007, Church began hosting her very own television program, “The Charlotte Church Show.”

Charlotte Church has been featured in many tabloid newspapers over the years, and the topic of discussion is frequently about her love life. In 2002, Church left her family home to move in with her DJ/ model boyfriend, Steven Johnson. The couple split up in 2003. She began dating Kyle Johnson, but that relationship ended in 2005. Shortly after, Church met Welsh International Ruby Union player, Gavin Henson. The two of them fell in love and have had 2 children together as of 2009. Church has stated that she wants to have 4 to 6 children, while Henson wants to have 8.

• She signed an autobiography deal worth 800,000 pounds
• She earned 300,000 pounds for doing a Ford car ad, whereby she became popular for singing its anthem entitled "Just Wave Hello." The track is included in her self-titled second album
• At 14, she ranked 2nd among UK showbiz celebrities under the age of 30 with regard to gross income earned in 2000 (6,500,000 pounds), and 19th among all UK celebrities
• At 12, she was the youngest person to ever have been no. 1 in the classical charts with the release of her album, Voice of an Angel
• She is referred to as an ‘opera star’ in the press, yet has never sung in an opera.
