Emma Roberts – Filmography
Emma Roberts, aside from having had a popular television
show on Nickelodeon’s ‘Unfabulous’,
has a surprising number of films under her belt. The onset of a career
at the age of nine with a role as Johnny Depp’s
daughter Kristina Jung, in the movie ‘Blow’,
could be daunting for many young actors, but not for Emma Roberts. Although
many of her scenes ended up on the cutting room floor due to time constraints,
she maintained her positivity and drive. In 2001, she was cast in ‘Big
Love’ opposite Sam Rockwell. In 2002,
Emma really got some screen-time when she landed a role in ‘Grand
Champion’ and played sister to title character Buddy who,
along with his prized calf Hokey, manages to work his way up through the
Texas stock shows to become a top winner.
From
Singer to Sleuth
Emma Roberts landed her famous role as the exuberant Addie Singer
on ‘Unfabulous’ in 2004; nonetheless, this did nothing to
quench her desire to star in bigger film productions. She was slated to
appear in four films in 2006: ‘Bras & Broomsticks’,
‘Camp Couture’, ‘Spymate’
and ‘Aquamarine’. However, only the two latter
films made it through to production.
- In ‘Spymate’, Emma plays Amelia, the
daughter of a spy who gets kidnapped in an evil plot to destroy the
world. Her former-spy father and his monkey partner must come out of
retirement to save her life and the whole world from imminent danger.
- In ‘Aquamarine’, Emma and her friend
(played by pop singer Jojo) find a mermaid washed ashore
during a summer storm and agree to help her find the boy of her dreams
in exchange for a magical wish.
A year later, Emma landed the role in the girl-friendly
mystery series Nancy Drew, officially titled ‘Nancy Drew:
The Mystery in Hollywood Hills’. Emma plays the famed teen
detective who travels away on business with her father only to stumble
upon clues related to the gruesome murder of a Hollywood starlet.
Upcoming projects for Emma Roberts
Since the ‘Unfabulous’ series finale
in December 2007, Emma has been busy. She is
set to have quite a few new movies coming out
in 2008 and 2009. ‘Lymelife’,
in which Emma plays the role of Adrianna
Bragg, takes place in 1970s Rhode Island.
It is a more serious role for Emma. The film
focuses on two families who must deal with turbulent
relationships, real estate issues, and fighting
off an infestation of lyme disease in their
community. Emma will also lend her voice to
the character Wilma in the
animated film ‘The Flight Before
Christmas’. She will play the
spoiled daughter of Aiden Quinn,
who is shipped off to boarding school in ‘Wild
Child’, and is set to star in
two comedies: ‘Hotel for Dogs’
opposite Lisa Kudrow and Don
Cheadle, and ‘The Winning
Season’ as a high school basketball
player under coach Sam Rockwell.
