The Fabulous Emma Roberts
Backed
by the star-packed genes of industry veteran aunt, Julia Roberts, Emma
Roberts was destined for the entertainment industry. Though only in her
late teens, she has already landed roles in movies with heavy hitters
in the industry - she played Johnny Depp’s daughter
in the 2001 film, ‘Blow’ and made a name
for herself as Addie on Nickelodeon’s ‘Unfabulous’.
Born to be...
Born on February 10, 1991, in Rhinebeck, New York, Emma Roberts spent
much of her childhood on movie sets watching her famed aunt Julia entertain
the masses. Although Emma’s mother wanted an ordinary childhood
for her daughter, it was clear from early on that Emma was nowhere near
ordinary and neither were her career goals. Emma’s parents divorced
and she lived primarily with her mother, Kelly Cunningham. Her actor father,
Eric Roberts, has had little contact with Emma due to a custody battle
following their split.
Big
Break for Emma Roberts!
In 2004, Emma was cast as the bright and hilarious Addie Singer on ‘Unfabulous’.
The title character, Addie, was a charming, yet clumsy junior high student
with a penchant for singing and songwriting. This fed Emma’s desire
to express her own self in the genre of music. In 2005, Emma released
her first single, ‘If I Had It My Way’, on
the motion picture soundtrack for “Ice Princess.”
She soon followed up with an album titled ‘Unfabulous and
More’, backed by the juggernaut, Columbia Records. Her
last musical endeavor was a Weezer cover song (Island in the Sun) on the
‘Aquamarine’ soundtrack. Not only did ‘Unfabulous’
give Emma her start in music and acting, but it also allowed her to become
one of the first young starlets to open up her life in a blog about making
a television show. The blog gave fans an exclusive, insider look at behind-the-scene
antics, Hollywood lingo and ultimately into the life of Emma Roberts.
Awards and Accolades
Emma’s list of achievements continues
to grow. She landed a role opposite teen music
sensation Jojo in ‘Aquamarine’ in
2006 (for which she won a Young Artists Award
for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Supporting
Young Actress) and has since become the modern
face of super-sleuth Nancy Drew,
which was released in 2007. She has been nominated
for numerous awards, such as Breakout Performance
at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, a Young Artists
Award for Best Performance in a Television Series
(Comedy or Drama) and Leading Young Actress,
with much praise for her role as Addie
Singer.
