Fred Savage Filmography
Fred
Savage’s first recorded role was in 1986 in the video ‘Dinosaurs!’
and later that year, he appeared in ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’.
His big break came in 1987 when he was cast as the charming, inquisitive
grandson in Rob Reiner’s ‘The Princess Bride’.
The camera loved Fred, as did the audience, and in 1988 he landed the
lead role of Kevin Arnold in the series ‘Wonder Years’.
Not only did this role earn Fred national acclaim, but it also landed
him his first kiss with popular co-star Danica McKeller.
He later appeared in ‘Vice Versa’ (1988)
with star Judge Reinhold, and the frightening, hilarious
‘Little Monsters’ (1989) with comedian Howie
Mandel and little brother Ben Savage. Later
in 1989, Fred starred in ‘The Wizard’ alongside
Beau Bridges and Christian Slater.
It is a Wonder-ful Life for Fred Savage
After the ‘Wonder Years’ was cancelled in 1993, Fred did some
guest appearances and supporting roles on shows such as ‘Seinfeld’,
younger brother Ben’s show ‘Boy Meets World’,
‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’,
and the third installment of the Austin Powers franchise. He also landed
two more lead roles, in ‘Working’ and ‘Crumbs’,
yet both shows were short-lived. At this time, Fred was gradually moving
to behind-the-scenes roles. His directorial debut was for an episode of
his brother’s show, ‘Boy Meets World’.
He then directed episodes for Nickelodeon’s ‘Drake
& Josh’ and ‘Ned’s Declassified’
and the Disney Channel’s ‘Even Stevens’,
‘That’s So Raven’, ‘Hannah
Montana’ and ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’.
In 2007, Fred was also credited with being a co-producer of ‘Phil
of the Future’, a Disney Channel Original Series and was
nominated for a “Director’s Guild Award” for his work.
More recently, Fred Savage has directed the film ‘Daddy
Day Camp’ and several episodes of ‘It’s
Always Sunny in Philadelphia’. He has also lent his voice
to various animated projects, such as ‘Kim Possible’,
‘Oswald’, ‘Holidaze: The Christmas
that Almost Didn’t Happen’, and ‘Justice
League Unlimited’, in which he reunited with Jason Hervey,
who played Fred’s older brother Wayne, in ‘Wonder Years’.
