Hilary Duff Filmography
Early Work
Hilary Duff has quite a few films
under her fashionable belt and this 19-year-old
starlet shows no signs of slowing down. Many
of Hilary’s first television appearances
were unaccredited. In 1997, she briefly appeared
in Hallmark Entertainment’s western mini-series
True Women. In 1998, she obtained
a small part as an extra in Playing
by Heart, and her first real gig came
later that year when she portrayed the real-life
Wendy in the straight-to-video production of
Casper Meets Wendy. Hilary
went on to score more minor supporting roles
in the late 1990’s, and landed a Young
Artist Award for her performance in the television
film The Soul Collector.
The Big Break
The breakout role for Hilary Duff
came in 2001, when she was cast as the clumsy,
yet loveable Lizzie McGuire in Disney’s
The Lizzie McGuire Show. It
was a smash hit among younger audiences and
drew 2.3 million viewers per episode. Her girl-next-door
look, together with her witty and charming personality,
led to bigger and more high-profile roles. After
her portrayal of Lizzie McGuire, Hilary Duff’s
career blossomed and she has released approximately
two films per year since then.
2002
In 2002, in her first theatrical film
debut, she played a younger version of Patricia
Arquette’s character in Human
Nature. Also released was Disney’s
Cadet Kelly, a movie wherein
Hilary plays a couture-conscious fashionista
bumbling through basic training when she is
forced to attend her stepfather’s military
academy.
2003
Disney, still enamored with their
golden child, asked Hilary Duff to reprise her
role as Lizzie McGuire in the big screen spin-off
The Lizzie McGuire Movie. That
same year, Hilary got a starring role in Agent
Cody Banks opposite Frankie Muniz,
and in her highest earning film to date Cheaper
by the Dozen alongside industry veterans
Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. Hilary plays one
of the twelve Baker children who must endure
a move across the country so their parents can
fulfill their long-awaited career dreams.
2004
At this point in her career, Hilary
Duff branched out into more dramatic roles.
She starred opposite Chad Michael Murray in
a modern day version of the fairy tale Cinderella
in A Cinderella Story. Hilary
plays Sam, an average teen who falls in love
with her online chatting partner, only to discover
he is the most popular and seemingly unattainable
boy at her school. In Raise your Voice,
Hilary portrays a young, bourgeoning singer
with a big-time voice who, after experiencing
personal tragedy, runs off to a school of performing
arts despite her father’s wishes.
2005
Hilary Duff reprised her role as Lorraine
Baker in Cheaper by the Dozen 2
in 2005, and also starred in The Perfect
Man alongside the stunning Heather
Locklear. Hilary’s character, Holly, gets
herself embroiled in a scheme to find for her
mother (Locklear) the perfect man.
Material Girls (2006)
Hilary’s most recent film Material
Girls was produced by Madonna’s
film production company, Maverick Films, and
co-starred Hilary’s sister Haylie. In
this light-hearted comedy, Hilary and Haylie
play the wealthy Marchetta sisters who must
fight to win back their stolen inheritance.
