What about Hilary Duff?
The Duff Debut
Hilary Duff was born on September
28, 1987 in Houston, Texas. Hilary, along with
her big sister Haylie Duff, enjoyed their first
taste of the performing arts at the age of six
when both girls studied Cecchetti ballet, and
danced in The Nutcracker with the Columbus Ballet
Met in San Antonio. After seeing how much her
daughters enjoyed performing, mother Susan relocated
the girls to California, while the father, Bob
Duff, stayed in Houston to manage the family
business, a chain of convenience stores. Since
then, Hilary Duff has been enamored with performing,
and has gone on to entertain audiences of all
ages with her films and music. However, there
were several years when Hilary attended countless
meetings and auditions only to be cast in numerous
television commercials, but not much else. As
much as this dampened Hilary’s spirits,
her mother supported her and urged her to keep
trying.
Branching
Out
Bigger and more lucrative roles began
to trickle in, and Hilary Duff’s film
career began to gain momentum. Her portrayal
of Lizzie McGuire on Disney’s The
Lizzie McGuire Show was the initial
role that catapulted her into celebrity. At
this time, Hilary was also tapping into and
experimenting with her talent for singing and
music. Hilary was finally settling into her
niche. She was to become a new breed of female
performer - what is now referred to as the “triple
threat”. Hilary is the quintessential
performer; she dances, sings, and acts. Her
raw talent combined with the encouragement and
support from her family definitely paid off
as Hilary Duff is now a household name, a powerful
role-model with a phenomenal amount of star-power.
Designing Woman
Aside from gracing the silver screen
and knocking out pop hits, Hilary has found
the time to be spokesperson and model for the
Candies clothing line, Barbie’s fashions,
and Hershey’s Ice Breakers. Her penchant
for fashion led her to develop and release her
own clothing and home line Stuff by
Hilary Duff in March 2004, which will
expand to include a juniors line in late 2007.
Hilary has also launched an exclusive perfume
with cosmetics mogul Elizabeth Arden called
With Love by Hilary Duff.
Despite having appeared in several magazines, being named
one of the hottest stars under 25 by Teen People, and having had high-profile
relationships with fellow pop sensation Aaron Carter and tattooed frontman
Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, Hilary Duff always manages to keep herself
grounded and knows not to take things too seriously.
Hilary Duff has traveled from her Disney launching pad to
several movies and various other business ventures. She had roles in the
following films: Cheaper By The Dozen, A Cinderella Story, According to
Great, Cheaper By The Dozen 2 and Stay Cool. Although her movies have
had moderate success at the box office, Hilary is still searching for
her breakthrough “adult” role.
Hilary has a line of clothing called Femme
for DKNY and her own line called Stuff. Both have received acclaim by
fashion insiders and remain popular with teenage girls. She has two perfumes
with Elizabeth Arden on the market and is in the process of developing
another.
The biggest role for Hilary is her new title of ‘wife’.
She married NHL player Mike Comrie during the summer of 2010 in an outdoor
California wedding.
Hilary has made TV appearances for the following shows:
Ghost Whisperer, Gossip Girl and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
She is currently working on The Story of Bonnie and Clyde movie, due out
in 2011.
“Every week
I read about myself in a magazine, about something
that I haven't done or some place that I've
never been or don't even know. It's just gossip,
rumors, egos, and politics.” – Hilary
Duff.
