Jaden Smith Biography
Jaden Christopher Syre Smith was born in Malibu, California,
on July 8, 1998, into a family that is more than familiar with fame. His
father, Will Smith, began his career as a rapper, achieved celebrity status
in the teen television series ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’,
and is now one of the most sought-after actors in the film industry, starring
in such box-office hits as ‘Men in Black’ and ‘Independence
Day’.
Jaden
Smith’s mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, has enjoyed her fair share of
fame as well, playing in the famed 80s television series ‘A Different
World’ and breaking into the world of film as the co-star of ‘The
Nutty Professor’ in 1996.
Jaden’s younger sister, Willow Smith, has followed
her parents’ lead, maintaining both a music and film career with
hits such as the single “Whip My Hair” and a film role in
‘I Am Legend’. Recently, Jaden and Willow tied for the YoungStars
award at the 2011 BET Awards.
Schooling and Humanitarian Work
Like his sister Willow, Jaden is home-schooled and also attends the New
Village Leadership Academy in Calabasas, California, which was co-founded
by his parents. Both he and his sister are youth ambassadors for Project
Zambia, a humanitarian effort partnered with the Hasboro Corporation to
provide assistance to orphaned children in Africa, whose parents have
died of AIDS.
Career So Far
Not yet a teenager, Jaden Smith has already accomplished a great deal
in the field of entertainment, as a rapper, dancer, and actor. The young
star’s career officially began when he played Reggie in the family-produced
sitcom ‘All of Us’ which was based on the Smith family’s
own experiences in raising a blended family. His next TV stunt was not
until 2008 when he made an appearance on the “Romancing the Phone”
episode of ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’. By that time
however, he had already made a name for himself in the world of film with
his breakout performance alongside his real-life father in the 2006 drama,
‘The Pursuit of Happyness’. This role garnered him critical
acclaim and several awards including Best Breakthrough Performance at
the MTV Awards.
Since then, Jaden Smith has been featured in the films
‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ (2008) and ‘Justin Bieber:
Never Say Never’ (2011). He also played opposite Jackie Chan in
the 2010 remake of the classic film ‘The Karate Kid’, a role
which won him notable awards such as the Young Artist Award for Best Performance
in a Feature Film Leading Young Actor and 2010’s ShoWest Award for
Breakthrough Male Star of the Year. Most recently, Jaden has filmed the
movie ‘Amulet’ with his sister Willow, which is set to be
released in 2012.
Jaden rapped with Justin Bieber in the teen idol’s
single “Never Say Never,” made a cameo appearance in Alicia
Keys’ music video “Superwoman,” and was a background
dancer in his sister’s debut video for her single “Whip My
Hair.”
Jayden Smith’s Future Plans?
With his natural knack as a performer in the world of film and music,
as well as the backing of his A-list parents, there is not much doubt
that Jaden Smith’s future will be a bright one. However, exactly
what films and songs he has in mind for his growing fan base remains a
mystery.
