LeAnn Rimes’ Biography
In the Beginning
At
only 2 years old, when most children are learning
to speak, Margaret LeAnn Rimes was already singing.
Born on August 28, 1982, in Jackson, Mississippi,
LeAnn moved with her family to Garland, Texas
in 1989 and recorded her first album by the
time she was 7 years old. She appeared on Star
Search, as many young stars do, at the age of
8. For the next four years, her popularity grew
locally as she performed in talent shows and
on Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue.
Her second album was released when she was 11
and included the song ‘Blue’. When
this track caught the interest of Mike Curb,
she was signed to Curb Records. By the time
LeAnn was 13 years of age, ‘Blue’
had become a multi-platinum national hit.
LeAnn Rimes’ Claim to Fame
Unlike many young stars, LeAnn’s
amazing voice has allowed her fame to grow with
her, from childhood through to womanhood. She
sold over 37 million records by the age of 25,
and has won 2 Grammys, 3 Academy of Country
Music Honors, 1 American Music Award, and 12
Billboard Awards. She can admit to having the
longest running single ever on the Billboard
Hot 100 with the song ‘How do I Live’.
LeAnn ventured out of the music industry and
into other fields of interest. She made her
first appearance on television in the 1997 ABC
movie ‘Holiday in your Heart’, and
in 1999 made her debut in the film industry
in ‘Coyote Ugly’. She has also co-authored
a series of children’s books, and is the
spokeswoman for the Children’s Miracle
Network where she raises money for hospitals.
Personal Life
In the year 2000, LeAnn Rimes filed
a lawsuit against her father/manager stating
that he had stolen approximately 7 million dollars
from her. During this time of legal turmoil,
LeAnn met her husband Dean Sheremet, who was
her backup dancer at the 2001 Academy of Country
Music Awards. She and her father have since
reconciled, and she and Dean are happily married
and living in Nashville, Tennessee.
