Leonardo DiCaprio Biography

Born on November 11th 1974 in Los Angeles, California, Leonardo DiCaprio became one of the biggest names in Hollywood. His parents, George DiCaprio, an underground comic book artist, and Irmelin, a German immigrant, first met in College and decided to move to Los Angeles together. Irmelin, while pregnant, gave their son the name of Leonardo because she felt his first kick when she was observing a Leonardo Da Vinci painting in a museum in Italy.

Leonardo’s parents divorced a year after he was born, leaving him to live primarily with his mother. During his childhood, he often had to move to a different neighborhood as his mother worked at numerous jobs to support them. Nonetheless, Leonardo’s father saw his son frequently and would spend time visiting various museums with him. Leonardo graduated from John Marshall High School.

The Career of a Superstar
The early career of Leonardo DiCaprio involved many commercials, educational films, and some small TV spots until he was able to catch his big break in “This Boy’s Life,” in 1992, wherein he played a distressed teenager and co-starred with legendary actor, Robert De Niro.

In 1993, Leonardo DiCaprio achieved his first Academy Award nomination for his role in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” co-starring Hollywood A-list actor Johnny Depp. DiCaprio went on to star in other successful films such as “The Basketball Diaries,” “Total Eclipse,” and “Romeo + Juliet.”

In 1997, one movie took DiCaprio to an entirely new level of superstardom, and that film was “Titanic” directed by James Cameron. Following the success of “Titanic,” he continued to star in many amazing blockbusters including “The Man in the Iron Mask,” “Gangs of New York,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “The Aviator,” “The Departed,” “Body of Lies,” “Revolutionary Road,” and is currently set to star in “Shutter Island” in 2009.

Personal Life
Leonardo DiCaprio is a very enthusiastic and dedicated environmentalist. He has worked with many celebrities to educate people on the dangers of global warming and ways to be eco-friendly. He is also a very generous man, as he has donated his time and money to many charities and organizations over the years.

From 2001 until 2005, DiCaprio dated Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen, and Kristen Zang. In November of 2005, he met Israeli model Bar Refaeli at a Las Vegas party thrown for the band members of U2. They have been dating ever since.
