Maureen McCormick Biography
Born on August 5th 1956 in Encino, California, to parents
Irene and William McCormick, Maureen McCormick was recognized very early
in her life for her beauty and talent. She won the Baby Miss San Fernando
Valley pageant at only 6 years old. She went on to appear in various American
commercials including Chatty Cathy and Barbie. Her acting career really
took off in the 1960’s when she was chosen to appear in popular
sitcoms such as “Bewitched,” “My
Three Sons,” “Camp Runamuck,”
and “I Dream of Jeannie”.
Television
and Film Career
Following her guest appearances on various sitcoms, Maureen McCormick’s
big break came when she landed the role of Marcia on the hit American
show “The Brady Bunch,” which ran from 1969
to 1974. After the show was cancelled, McCormick appeared on a wide variety
of successful television shows including “Love Boat,”
“Happy Days,” “Donny &
Marie,” “Fantasy Island,”
“Streets of San Francisco,” and a number
of B-list movies such as “Skatetown,” “Vacation
in Hell,” and Return to Horror High.”
In 2007, McCormick appeared on the reality show “Celebrity
Fit Club” in an effort to lose the weight she had put on
following the death of her mother in 2004 after a three-year battle with
cancer. Not only did she lose 34 pounds, but she was also declared the
winner of the series for the year.
Personal Life
It was a difficult time for Maureen McCormick after the cancellation
of “The Brady Bunch” in 1974. She began to use cocaine and
Quaaludes rather frequently, which resulted in many failed auditions.
She later struggled with drug addiction, bulimia, depression, and faced
two unwanted pregnancies that both ended in abortion.
In 1985, Maureen McCormick married Michael Cummings, whom she had met
in a church. The couple’s first child was born in 1989. With the
help of her husband, her Brady Bunch cast mates, and antidepressants,
she was able to eventually win her battle against depression.
