The Musical Stylings of Miley
Cyrus
Miley
Cyrus became an overnight sensation when she
was cast as the star in Disney’s Hannah
Montana. The television series focuses
on Miley Stewart, played by Miley Cyrus, who
leads a double life as an average teenage girl,
and whose secret alter-ego is the pop music
sensation, Hannah Montana. The popular series
follows the starlet through the comical trials
and tribulations of trying to conceal her secret
identity and trying to adjust to her new surroundings
in Malibu. Miley’s real father, country
crooner Billy Ray Cyrus, plays
her on-screen father and manager. The series
debuted on the Disney Channel on March 24, 2006,
and has already received an Emmy Award nomination.
Miley originally auditioned for the role of
best friend Lilly Truscott; however, Disney
thought she would be much better suited for
the main character role of Zoe Stewart, which
was later changed to Miley Stewart when Cyrus
landed the role.
Miley’s
Music
On October 24, 2006, Walt Disney Records released
the Hannah Montana soundtrack,
which featured eight songs from the show sung
by Miley herself. At this time, Hollywood Records
also approached Miley with a four-album record
contract. In late June of 2007, Miley released
another album, Hannah Montana 2: Meet
Miley Cyrus. It was a double album,
with one disc serving as the second Hannah Montana
soundtrack and the other as Miley’s debut
album as herself. Miley was a co-writer on eight
of the ten songs featured on the record. Also
in 2006, she performed as Hannah Montana at
The Typhoon Lagoon at Orlando’s Walt Disney
World, which was recorded for the Disney Channel.
The much-talented artist then spent the rest
of the year opening for The Cheetah Girls during
20 of their performances on their 39-city tour.
Miley then went on to appear on Hannah
Montana’s Backstage Secrets,
a special Disney promotional show in which Miley
portrays her character Hannah Montana in a fictional
interview.
Miley on the Move
In 2007, Miley Cyrus embarked on her first North-American
tour, Best of Both Worlds.
She performs as Hannah Montana and as herself.
Her opening acts included The Jonas
Brothers and Aly & A.J.
The tour was in such high demand that it was
extended until 2008 totaling 69 stops.
