Shia LaBeouf: Filmography
It would seem that Shia LaBeouf came out of
nowhere in 2007, landing major roles in hits
such as “Disturbia”,
“Transformers”,
and a much sought-after role in the fourth installment
of Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones series,
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom
of the Crystal Skull.” However,
LaBeouf has been on the scene for a while, and
has been slowly building a name through Disney
and other independent projects.
First Big Break
At a young age, Shia LaBeouf landed his first
acting gig on Disney’s “Even
Stevens” playing Louis Stevens,
a smart-mouthed kid who used his cunning wit
and playful nature to get himself out of trouble.
Shia describes that time in his life as a kind
of double-edged sword. He remarks that being
on this show sort of robbed him of a childhood,
but he still looks back on it fondly and claims
that it was “the best time” of his
life. He was awarded a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding
Performer in a Children’s Series for his
portrayal of Louis Stevens. In 2003, LaBeouf
was cast in another Disney production, “Holes”,
alongside industry veterans Sigourney Weaver
and Jon Voight. Voight gave Shia a book on acting,
making LaBeouf realize that acting could be
so much more than just a job. Although the film
achieved only moderate success at the box office,
it did make Steven Spielberg sit up and take
notice of Shia, calling him a “young Tom
Hanks.”
Building a Name
In the following two years, Shia LaBeouf appeared
in many small roles that served to enhance his
talent and range of character. He was featured
heavily in the documentary, Project
Greenlight, which chronicled the making
of the indie film, “The Battle
of Shaker Heights.” He earned
a small role in “I, Robot”,
acted alongside Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz
in “Constantine”,
and was a member of the star-studded cast of
“Bobby.”
